ART EDUCATION AS THE BACKGROUND FOR DEVELOPMENT OF CULTURAL IDENTITY AND MULTICULTURAL COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS

Annotation

The article deals with the problem of shaping cultural identity and multicultural competence of the students who major in art. The concepts “identity”, “cultural identity” and “multicultural competence” are analyzed in the paper. The author describes educational model of shaping cultural identity of students as well as their multicultural competence which include ability to perceive, interpret, understand and appreciate works of art created by representatives of various cultural groups. Analysis of some works of modern art based on abstract cultural symbols allows developing conceptual thinking and making students familiar with ideals and symbols of other nations.
