Annotation

The article provides retrospective analysis into the problem of ethno-cultural development throughout all history of foreign and domestic pedagogical thought. The carried out analysis shows special attention paid by outstanding teachers and public figures to a great role and importance of nationality principle in public education. The author revels content and main directions of ethno-cultural (national) education, conducts the analysis of various approaches to the explanation of substantial characteristics of such concepts as «national values of education», «national school», «ethno-cultural orientation in education».
