ROLE OF PATIENTS’ IDEAS ABOUT MEDICAL ACTIVITY IN DEVELOPING ATTITUDES TO A DOCTOR AND ILLNESS

Annotation

The research shows that attitude towards the process of treatment influences mutual relations between participants of the given process and is also reflected in people’s attitude to illness. Inadequacy or inconsistent ideas about the doctor’s profession on the part of both doctors and patients lead to deterioration of mutual relations between participants, decrease in medical activity efficiency. The received data allow tracking interrelation between patients’ ideas about medical activity and expected type of dialogue with a doctor and their attitude to illnesses. Accuracy and brightness of an image of a doctor in patients’ minds reduces uneasiness and suspiciousness concerning the prescribed medicine and procedures. Positive ideas about medical activity can shift patients’ attention from the result to the process of treatment that may result in indifference to the outcome of illness and disbelief in full recovery.
